Photo Highlights from Asian Festival in Savannah Georgia



After years long hiatus, the city of Savannah Georgia held its Asian American Pacific Islander festival event on Saturday, November 5, 2022.

Commonly known as Savannah’s Asian Festival, the theme for the 2022 event was “Colors of Asia” celebrating the vibrant music, dance, food and culture of people from Asian heritage countries.

Cultural Program

The opening program included a Chinese dragon dance that snaked around the outdoor venue, Eastern Wharf, located along the Savannah river.

The scheduled program took place from noon until 4pm and featured Filipino cultural Salakot wide brimmed hat fan dance, martial arts by Savannah Ving Sung, Japanese vocal pop music, Indian dance, Middle Eastern belly dance by Salwa, and a fashion show of Chinese Cheongsam dresses.

Savannah’s Mayor Van Johnson was in attendance and was honored with a karate black belt for his support of Asian community.

Asian culture

The festival included booths of Asian food, clothes, and organizations that support immigrants. Food trucks. Asian countries represented at the event included: China, The Philippines, India, Indonesia and Japan.

Attendees enjoyed the return of Savannah’s biggest annual Asian cultural event. Vendors and organizations included sushi, Filipino and organizations supporting immigrants.
