Diwali: Write the Light Down

•Christine Brown Clayton

Diwali is the festival of lights. This year it falls on Sunday, November 8.

Last night I went to Asia After Dark at the National Museum of Asian Art in Washington, DC. The museum stayed open late for Diwali. There was music and dance, crafts to make, and light everywhere. I filmed some of it, and I edited the video below.

Diwali is about light winning over dark. That is a big idea. But the night itself is small. A diya in a window. Marigolds at a door. Sweets shared with people you love.

Diwali: write the light down

The light fades. The memory fades faster. So write one moment down. The smell. The song. The face across the table. One honest line is enough. That is how a festival stays with you after the night ends.

If you want a page for it, the free Global Culture Planner has one. It holds the festivals that stay with you, and the small moments that made them matter.
